To our home’s successor,
The second half of 2019 was both slow moving and eventful.
In June of 2019, after a particularly difficult week at work, Matt suggested we go up to the roof and watch the sunset over a beer. We came back down those narrow widow walk steps as a newly engaged couple. Together for 5 years, and already invested in our house project, this was locking in our commitment to each other, but also- I couldn’t wait to have our wedding photos taken at our home.

We grew our little family, by bringing home our friend’s 8 year-old German-shepard/lab mix, Sammi, in October 2019. Although we were both a little nervous to add a pup into the mix while we were an ongoing job-site- we bought the house to fill it and this was the perfect opportunity. The first several weeks were an adjustment, and I can’t say we accomplished much on the house, but she’s enriched our life and allowed us to slow down a little too.

We celebrated our first Christmas in the new house in 2019…I dreamed of decorating for months but with the state of our porches and most of the house being filled with unopened moving boxes and construction, I was light on implementing. We got our first tree from Pierce’s tree farm (Now, Hollis Hill’s tree farm) and brought Sammi along to scout and cut our own.

I often had off work the week between Christmas and New Years, and took that opportunity to make it to the Fitchburg Historical Society to do some research. The staff was so wonderful and helpful, and it was easy to spend several hours there looking around and learning more about Fitchburg. It was difficult to find much on our house specifically, many of the early maps cut off just before our house, and at the time, we thought our house only dated back to 1870 and did not know the official first owner of the house, so connecting the dots was a challenge. The Facebook group for the historical society is where we ultimately found the bulk of our information.

With 2019 wrapping up with so many wins, we were excited to see what 2020 was going to bring us…
